Using Your Spiritual Gifts as an Offering

Are you seeking to find deeper meaning and purpose in your daily life? Embracing God’s call to use your spiritual gifts as an offering can transform how you view your talents and skills.

In the book of Exodus, we find an inspiring example of the Israelites, each contributing their unique abilities to fulfill God’s commands. This wasn’t just about completing tasks—it was about offering their lives and skills to God and the community. Let’s explore how we can follow their example, resist the pressures of worldly success, and fully trust in God’s provision and design for our lives.

Biblical Examples of Using Spiritual Gifts as an Offering

All who are skilled among you are to come and make everything the LORD has commanded. – Exodus 35:10

In the book of Exodus, we see a powerful example of the Israelites coming together, each contributing their unique skills to fulfill God’s commands. This wasn’t just a task or a job—it was an offering. They didn’t seek personal gain or recognition; their lives and skills became an offering to God and the community.

Everyone who was willing and whose heart moved them came and brought an offering. – Exodus 35:21

Every skilled woman spun with her hands, bringing what she had spun—blue, purple, or scarlet yarn or fine linen. All the women who were willing and had the skill spun goat hair. (Exodus 35:25-26) Their gifts were both skill and resource, turning their lives into an offering to the church. This wasn’t about building a business or clientele; it was an offering only they could give. God was honored in their giving, using it for His kingdom purposes.

See, the LORD has chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and all kinds of skills—Exodus 35:30-34

Bezalel and Oholiab were filled with the Spirit of God, equipped with wisdom and all kinds of skills to create artistic designs and teach others. Their talents were divinely appointed, and their work served a greater purpose.

Resisting the Pressure of Worldly Success

There is immense pressure to turn our ministries into profitable businesses, equating success with bigger and richer ventures. But what if God’s design for our lives is different? What if our calling is to avoid distractions and focus on the gifts God has given us, even if it means less monetary success or smaller platforms?

At the same time, God knows what is required for speaking and publication. He understands the demands of the game and equips us accordingly.

Lavish Offerings: The Woman at Bethany

During Jesus’ last week, a woman at Bethany pours perfume—her greatest asset—on Jesus. The disciples are outraged, but Jesus defends her, saying, “She did what she could” (Mark 14:8). Her act seems irresponsible to others, yet it was needed and necessary. She gives lavishly, trusting Jesus for everything from that moment on.

This woman’s act challenges us. What would it look like if we pour out everything we have, regardless of others’ opinions? What if we trust God fully, without worrying about anyone’s perception?

Doing What We Can with What We Have

May God empower us to do what we can with what He has given us. May He provide, equip, and send blessing upon blessing so that we can be a blessing to others. Our lives, talents, and offerings have a divine purpose, far beyond worldly measures of success.

Embrace God’s call. Use your spiritual gifts as an offering. Trust in His provision and design for your life. Let your life be an offering that honors Him and furthers His kingdom.
