Elevate Your Prayer Life with Scripture

Elevate Your Prayer Life with Scripture

Hey there! Ever find your mind wandering when you’re trying to pray? Does it seem like every time you sit down to talk with God, distractions come knocking? Your to-do list, that brilliant idea, or the sudden need to jot something down can easily steal your focus. I get it. I’ve been there, wrestling with distractions that diluted the power of my prayers. That was until I discovered a game-changing strategy – incorporating Scripture into my prayers. Today, I’m passing along the playbook so you, too, can use the profound impact of Scripture to elevate your prayer life.

What’s the buzz about?

Let’s dive into the big deal, with six game-changing benefits of infusing Scripture into your prayer life.

#1 More Focus – Less Distraction

Distractions can sabotage prayer time, but Scripture acts as a guide, anchoring your thoughts and keeping your mind from wandering. It’s the ultimate tool for maintaining focus and voicing what truly matters.

Have you ever felt like your prayers were a laundry list of distractions? Picture this: as you begin to pray, your mind races through the demands of the day, darting from one concern to the next. That’s the struggle I faced until I stumbled upon a powerful strategy – weaving Scripture into my prayers.

#2 Helps You Learn What to Pray

Ever feel unsure about what to pray? The Bible houses over 650 prayers, 25 of which Jesus prayed. It’s a goldmine of guidance when you’re at a loss for words or wondering about your motives. Take cues from the Psalms or other relatable passages to express your heart.

“But I, O LORD, cry to you; in the morning my prayer comes before you.” Psalm 88:13

“Indeed, God is my salvation; I will trust in him and not be afraid, for the LORD, the LORD, himself, is my strength and my song. He has become my salvation.” Isaiah 12:2

#3 Reminds You of Who God Is

In the chaos of life, it’s easy to forget who God is. Scripture serves as a reminder of His character – merciful, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love, and faithfulness.

“But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.” Psalm 86:15

#4 Reminds You of Who You Are

We all need a reminder of our identity in Christ. Scripture reassures you that you are set free, yoke broken, and enabled to live in freedom.

“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, so that you would no longer be their slaves. I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to live in freedom.” Leviticus 26:13

#5 Keeps Your Heart and Mind on Him

When we are busy praying God’s Word back to Him, our thoughts cannot be centered on our own problems. The focus moves from our problems to God Himself, offering peace in the midst of trouble.

“Turn my eyes from looking at what is worthless; give me life in your ways.” (Psalm 119:36)

“Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will save me.” (Psalm 138:7)

When you pray God’s Word, you are more likely to be praying prayers more in line with His desires and heart than without utilizing Scripture. Doing so, gives a greater sense of surety when we pray. We leave off worrying if we’re doing it right, or if He will bother listening. Our confidence grows when we align our words with those who have gone before us, because we can be more sure what we ask is in line with His agenda.

#6 Reassures You of God’s Care

In moments of fear and even doubt, Scripture reassures you that God is for you, caring and intent on helping.

“The LORD is for me; I will not be afraid.” (Psalm 118:6)

“When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose Word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” (Psalm 56:3-4)

Did I mention more focus – less distraction? Yes, but it’s here AGAIN because we need it. Armed with verses to pray, my heart and mind align with God’s, keeping personal concerns and worries at bay. As this is where many of us lose the effectiveness of our prayers, let’s look at the “how” of putting this all together

How Can You Elevate Your Prayer Life?

Set a Dedicated Time and Place

Carve out at least 15 distraction-free minutes daily for focused prayer.

Finding a quiet time and space for prayer can seem like an elusive luxury in our fast-paced lives. Yet, it’s a crucial step in creating an environment where your body and mind can join together in prayer. Find a spot free from external disturbances, allowing you to connect with God without interruption.

Journal Your Thoughts and Prayers

Consider journaling your prayers – it’s a powerful way to connect with God.

Journaling has been a game-changer in my prayer life. Putting pen to paper helps me articulate my thoughts, fears, and joys before God. It turns my prayer time into a conversation, a written exchange between me and my Creator. I’ve posted a few available below. Be sure to check out the entire journal collection through The Stirring Faith Company.

Use Scripture Cards to Elevate Your Prayer Life

Use Scripture cards like the ones available to easily integrate verses into your prayers.

Having a set of Scripture cards at your fingertips is like having a wellspring of inspiration. They provide a tangible connection to God’s Word, allowing you to infuse your prayers with the richness of Scripture. And they are pretty (at least my favorites are). We have several different sets available I think you will love.

Go Digital with a Prayer App

Since I always have my phone, a few years ago, I tried finding a prayer app to use in addition to these other resources. The one I settled on is free, called Echo. It’s super simple to use, giving you two options, only. You can either 1) pray, or 2) add a prayer. That’s it. Nothing fancy. But I have been able to cut and paste parts of Scripture into my prayers, catalogue what I’m praying about, and set reminders each day for people and issues for whom I want to pray.

I do not know the creators, nor do I benefit in any way from my promotion. I just believe it has been a powerful tool God has used in my own life, and I want to share it with you. In our digital age, leveraging technology for prayer can be a game-changer.

Don’t wait. Today, elevate your prayer life by unleashing the transformative power of Scripture. Let it guide your thoughts, anchor your focus, and deepen your connection with God. You will be so glad your did,

Its intuitive interface allows you to create personalized prayer lists and set specific prayer times effortlessly. No more fumbling through papers or losing track of your prayer requests. The app will keep you organized and focused, making prayer a delightful experience.

Prayer is a powerful, communal act, and the Echo Prayer app understands this deeply. You can join or create prayer groups with like-minded Christian women, lifting each other’s burdens, and witnessing incredible answers to prayer together. The power of unity in prayer cannot be overstated, and this app brings that strength right to your fingertips.

But fear not, the Echo Prayer app is here to rescue your prayer routine. With timely reminders and notifications, you’ll stay on track and keep your prayer life consistent. You can even personalize these reminders, so they come to you at the most convenient times.

We are a family of ten with one son-in-law in the works. Daily, I cycle through pages devoted to needs, desires, people, and causes rotating randomly through the app experience. But there may be days when prayer requests for my family do not appear during the time allotted. As a mom, my longing and responsibility is to pray for those entrusted to me, so I used the reminders feature to make sure I am praying for each one every day of the week.

Journaling for Deeper Reflection

Ever felt like you were talking to God, but the words just wouldn’t come out right? Echo Prayer has a fantastic journaling feature that lets you jot down your thoughts, feelings, and reflections during prayer. This not only helps you articulate your desires and concerns but also creates a beautiful record of your spiritual journey. Looking back on these journal entries will show you how God has been faithful in answering your prayers.

Encouragement Through Prayer Testimonies

We all have times when our faith feels weak, and we wonder if God is listening. The Echo Prayer app tackles this doubt head-on by encouraging users to share prayer testimonies. These powerful stories of answered prayers will uplift your spirit and remind you of God’s faithfulness. As you read how He’s moving in the lives of other Christian women, your faith will be strengthened, and you’ll approach your prayer time with even greater expectancy.

Best App to Help You Pray

Best App to Help You Pray

If you ever struggle with staying focused, praying on a regular basis, remembering what to pray, or being diligent to pray Scripture– have I got good news for you! Help is on the way. I have found the best app! Let me introduce ECHO, the prayer app.

My cousin/friend turned me onto this resource a few months ago and my time with the Lord has never been the same. HONESTLY. I can journal, sticky note, and remember stuff with the best of them in terms of what I should pray– but nothing yet has compared with the help this little free app has been to me, personally.

I talked about it in the She Yearns Podcast, Best App for Praying, but I wanted you to have a written account in case you need it that way, also.

It’s so simple. First of all just download it. What you see is what you get. Two simple options: Pray Now or Add a Prayer. Let me tell you about some of the features and how you might utilize this awesome tool in your daily life.

How to use the app

Add a Prayer

First you are going to Add a Prayer.

  • Enter a title of the prayer. This could be the name of the person you want to pray for, the cause, or need, or maybe the reference if it is a verse, like Joshua 1:9.
  • Add an image if you like. (You don’t have to do this. I personally haven’t taken the time yet to do this – so you can skip it.)
  • Add a description. This is for you. Spelling doesn’t count. It doesn’t have to be a complete sentence. It can be in code. Whatever. However you want to jot down what it is you are praying for. The important aspect here is to HASHTAG IT.

For instance, if I want to pray the Scripture, Psalm 90:16-17, this is what my entry would look like:

Psalm 90:16-17

Let your work be shown to your servants; and your glorious power to their children.

Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!

  • Then I would push “Add” and now it would be under the “Pray Now” button. I can repeat this process to add more prayers.

Pray Now

When I am ready to pray for the requests I have entered, I simply push the “Pray Now” button and my requests begin to rotate. I turn them like I turn a page on a Kindle.

Another feature I like is called Feeds. This is basically a collection of groups, organizations, and causes that has developed a “Feed” or what we might call a profile with different areas to pray in and for and possibly some prayers written out. Let’s say I want to pray for Missionaries. There is a category or Feed with that title. This is what you would do:

  • Click on that category.
  • Under Missionaries, there will be several Feed choices like, Pray for Napal, Vision Baptist Missions, 10/40 Window, or Vision for China.
  • Select one. Let’s say I selected the Feed, Vision Baptist Missions.
  • Next, I can just look peruse the prayer requests and pray as I want, or I can choose to “Follow this Feed.”
  • If I want to incorporate the prayer into my own prayer time, I can press, “Copy to My Prayers” and it automatically adds it to my cycle of prayers.
  • You can join and participate in any Feed for the free version of the app.

If you want to create your own, it requires the upgraded paid version. I’m looking to do this for our ministry here over the next few months. It’s just another way to connect in a meaningful way that is Gospel-Centered.

You can set a reminder for a particular prayer, hashtag, or feed, for a particular date, and how often you want to be reminded. That’s just awesome for a mom of eight!

There is also a mechanism for keeping track of prayers you find God is answering. There will be a bar at the bottom while you are praying that gives the option to delete, share, or answered. Then it keeps track of the ones that you mark as “answered.” I don’t know if you are in the habit of doing this, but I have found this to be of such value in my journals. To be able to go back over the history I am creating with God. That He is present and active in my life- in my needs – in where I am– is so critical to faith. I love this about Echo. So I hope you will utilize it.

Additional Paid Features

There are a few features that are available beyond the Free version: the ability to create your own Feeds, Groups, share your prayers and add photos. I believe it’s $2.99/mo or $19.99 per year. I’m not sure I articulated this on the podcast. I apologize if I did not get it in there specifically. I don’t use these additional features, but I see the value in them. The most useful ones for personal use might be Shared with Me and adding photos. By and large, you can manage very well with the free version. To join a Feed or participate in a Group you do not need to pay anything.

I hope you will try it out. Let me know what you think. And if you are interested in me posting a Feed, what would you like to see on it?

Have a great week!

For His Glory,
