Pray for Wisdom
What do you do when you have an issue and realize you don’t know what to do? Who do you seek out for help or advice? Meeting relationships or jobs or problems without knowing what to do next can be daunting. Although a common experience, it’s also one that can be wrought with anxiety and uncertainty, unless you and I commit to follow the advice of James, and pray for wisdom.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. James 1:5
We find this modeled by Solomon (1 Kings 3) very early in his kingship, as he asks for nothing other than wisdom in leading the people. But Solomon is not the first to seek God out of this need. In the time preceding Solomon’s reign, David, his father, spent time with God, learning the ins and outs of how to build the temple.
“All this,” David said, “I have in writing from the hand of the LORD upon me, and he gave me understanding in all the details of the plan.” David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the LORD is finished. 1 Chronicles 28:19-20
More than a specific prayer for wisdom, Scripture leaves us with the precedent and examples from those who did so. What you and I can glean from this Biblical evidence is the necessity to pray for wisdom when we need it.
What I would like to do is pray on your behalf today. Would you join me? Let’s use this cyberspace to gather ourselves together and ask for what God is so generously ready to give.
A Prayer for Wisdom
May you bless my friend today by giving her what she needs. Give her wisdom to know what to do in difficult situations. Help her to know how to proceed in her difficult situations. Provide the words and the direction for how to navigate her relationships. Reveal more of Yourself to her so that she can walk faithfully before You. Show her how to lead the people entrusted to her. Illuminate what her next step should be. And give her the assurance that you are a generous giver, and that You will not fail her.
