20 Verses to Encourage Your Confidence in the Lord

In this journey of faith, confidence in the Lord is crucial for overcoming life’s challenges. Often, before I have even brushed my teeth in the morning, my thoughts are filled with all I am not and how I have demonstrated this reality in the past. What I have found is that the best thing I can do for myself is to arm myself with the Word of God to help me trust in what I cannot see. When we trust in God’s promises and His unfailing love, you and I gain the strength and courage to face any situation. Whether you are experiencing doubt, fear, or uncertainty, these 20 Bible verses will help bolster your faith and encourage your confidence in the Lord, reminding you of His presence, power, and faithfulness.

20 Verses to Encourage Your Confidence in the Lord

Verse 1: Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

With God’s strength, you can overcome any obstacle and achieve anything He calls you to do.

Verse 2: Joshua 1:9

Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid…for the Lord thy God is with you wherever you go.

God’s presence is a constant source of courage and strength, no matter where life takes you.

Verse 3: Hebrews 10:35-36

Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.

Hold on to your confidence in God, for it brings great rewards and helps you endure through trials.

Verse 4: Hebrews 13:6

So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”

Knowing that the Lord is your helper removes all fear, empowering you to face any challenge.

Verse 5: Psalm 27:3

Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident.

Even in the face of overwhelming odds, your confidence in God will keep your heart fearless.

Verse 6: Jeremiah 17:7

But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.

Trusting in the Lord brings blessings and instills a deep, unwavering confidence in His plans.

Verse 7: Proverbs 3:25-26

Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.

God’s protection ensures that you will never be alone. God will help you through those in unexpected troubles and will never leave you to fend for yourself and hope for the best. There is a sweet assurance of God’s trustworthiness that can radiate through whatever difficulties we face.

Verse 8: 2 Timothy 1:7

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.

God’s Spirit fills you with power, love, and self-discipline, helping to diminish and even erase timidity and fear.

Verse 9: Psalm 138:8 (KJV)

The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.

God is faithful to complete the work He has started in you, demonstrating His eternal mercy. He does not leave us to figure it out on our own.

Verse 10: Philippians 1:6

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

Rest assured, God will continue His good work in you until it reaches completion. Glue this to your mirrors. Write it in Sharpie if you need. God is doing something tremendous with your life, and He will not quit working in and through you until the work is done. There are no half completed masterpieces in the kingdom of Heaven.

Verse 11: Hebrews 4:16

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

Yes. This is our privilege, to approach God’s throne with boldness, knowing you will receive mercy and grace in times of need.

Verse 12: Isaiah 40:31

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

I’m not sure how it works, but hoping in the Lord renews our strength, enabling us to soar, run, and walk without growing weary. And He will be faithful to do it.

Verse 13: Isaiah 41:10

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

God’s presence and strength are your assurance, eliminating fear and dismay from your life. Keep believing He can and will do this work in your life, as you trust in His sovereignty to walk with you through every fear, even carrying you, as needed.

Verse 14: 1 John 5:14

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

Confidence in God means believing that He hears you when you pray according to His will.

Verse 15: Psalm 56:3-4

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?

Here is yet another verse regarding fear. It seems we are most vulnerable to lose our confidence in God when we are scared. God knows this, and gives us these reassurances to trust Him. Ultimately, the bible teaches that this trusting banishes fear, so that there is nothing anyone can do that will shake our confidence in Him. I want that.

Verse 16: Romans 8:31

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

With God on our side, no one and nothing can stand against us.

Verse 17: Proverbs 14:26

In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, and his children will have a place of refuge.

Reverence for the Lord (the meaning of “the fear of the Lord” here) provides strong confidence and a safe refuge for His children.

Verse 18: Psalm 112:7

They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.

Are you ever facing the uncertainty of the unknown? Our minds run everywhere but to a confident trust in the Lord. However, the Word of God teaches that a confident trust in the Lord steadies your heart, allowing you to face any news without fear. Yep. I need this one, as well.

Verse 19: 2 Corinthians 3:4-5

Such confidence we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.

And in case we are feeling independent in our achievements and talents, Paul is there to remind us that our competence and confidence come from God, not from your own abilities.

Verse 20: Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

No doubt. Trusting in God fills you with joy, peace, and an overflowing hope through the Holy Spirit. Let this final verse for encouraging your confidence in the Lord to be a prayer you begin to pray over yourself and those you know who need it.

Confidence in the Lord is more than just a fleeting feeling. For the believer in Christ, it is a steadfast assurance based on God’s promises and His unwavering character. These 20 verses remind us that our strength, courage, and hope are rooted in our relationship with Him. Download them to your phones. Get them into your minds and hearts. Remember, as we meditate on these scriptures, the Holy Spirit will grow our confidence, helping us know with greater and greater conviction that we serve a God who is always faithful and true.
